Christmas Caroling in Lynmore Estates
The winter chill was in the air as members of Lynmore Estates, community leaders, and volunteers from Habitat for Humanity lined up for Lynmore Estates' first annual Christmas caroling cavalcade. With four trailers decked out in holiday decor, neighborhood youth and leaders rolled out of Countryside Baptist Church's yard and through the 10 streets of Lynmore Estates. From there, two hours of singing, giving out candy, and excitement would ensue as the children would sing as loudly and joyfully as they could whenever we passed homes and occasionally shout "Merry Christmas!" whenever somebody came outside to see what was going on. It was similar to a parade, only on a smaller scale as the neighborhood was lit up from all the holiday spirit the carolers brought, giving joy to Lynmore Estates this holiday season. Resident responses ranged from surprise, shock, grateful appreciation and some even moved to tears. It was evident that the news had gotten around as pockets of people anticipated the passing of the trailers on their streets. They waved, took pictures and shouted back holiday well-wishes. As we ended the two hour caroling adventure, participants were treated to some delicious snacks and heating to end what was already a great and spirited evening.
It is events like this, which I, as a resident, adore and admire. Lynmore Estates is a small neighborhood in South Macon, where most do not expect events such as Christmas caroling. However, Lynmore Estates residents continue to go above and beyond in improving the neighborhood and making it one of, if not the best, neighborhoods in Macon. Residents ranging from young to old are always willing to collaborate and make something new or do something great for the neighborhood whether it's having a clean-up, neutering and spaying pets, having end-of-school celebrations, or going caroling. Lynmore Estates continues to be a shining example for other neighborhoods in Macon, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for the neighborhood.
