With less scorching heat and humidity than the morning of July 20, 2013, the September neighborhood clean-up faired well. There was a slight breeze throughout the event and it was cloudy meaning no sun to get in the eyes of volunteers while they picked up trash. It was a soothing and quiet morning. The only real nuisance of the event was the pesky gnats which still decided to join the event. Thankfully they did not interfere with volunteers while they cleaned up.
The event had a much smaller outcome than July's event meaning less photos of volunteers to capture. I tried to keep up and capture everybody but it was hard to even find volunteers at first due to the sparse population of them. Nonetheless, I was able to capture at least most of the volunteers before they went out or during the time they walked the streets of Lynmore Estates, cleaning them up.
There was not a lot of trash compared to July's event, which most likely is due to the effectiveness of the last clean-up. Our collection of over 300 trash bags in July took care of a lot of Lynmore Estates' trash. In fact, most streets were cleaned up by eleven due to how limited the amount of trash there was. I am glad to see Lynmore Estates is staying clean, or at least clean enough that we may decrease our number of trash bags with each succeeding event. The event didn't end at even however.
The volunteers who had multiplied while I was roaming the streets all flocked to Countryside Baptist Church for lunch around 11:30am though most were early there. There was hotdogs with ketchup, mustard, and onions until they ran out of onions. There was also chips and lemonade to help bring a smile to volunteers' faces and fuel their hungry stomachs. After lunch, the door prizes giveaway began. There was 22 opportunities to win and while some residents left, all of the gifts were given away, including a $100 gift card to Academy Sports and Outdoors, 5 gift bags from Georgia Power, bus passes, Krispy Kreme doughnut coupons, and a few others. It was fun seeing people light up when they won as their tickets were called. It was overall a fun day and I cannot wait until December when we are scheduled to have another event, possibly themed for the holiday seasons then.
