Path to Shine Afterschool Program provides mentoring and tutoring support for at-risk elementary school students, 3rd through 5th grade. With one mentor for every two children Path To Shine seeks to help students graduateelementary school, while learning to make productive life choices that can lead to high school graduation.  The Path to Shine afterschool program is sponsored by and held at Southside Community Church in partnership with Christ Episcopal and St. Francis Episcopal churches.

Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that stresses education and common sense. It teaches citizens how to help themselves by identifying and reporting suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. In addition, it provides citizens with the opportunity to make their neighborhoods safer and improve the quality of life. Neighborhood Watch groups typically focus on observation and awareness as a means of preventing crime and employ strategies that range from simply promoting social interaction and “watching out for each other” to active patrols by groups of citizens.  Ms. Carrie Redmond is the Neighborhood Watch coordinator for Lynmore Estates.  Meetings are held every first Thursday of the month, except December, at Southside Community Church.

Shalom zones bring together churches, community leaders, businesses and local government to revitalize neighborhoods under the guidance of the national organization that provides training in specific areas such as strategic planning and fundraising. Communities of Shalom is a grass roots, faith-inspired, communitydevelopment network that seeks to support local congregations and community groups as they work together with representatives of all faith traditions and community organizations to create economically and ecologically sustainable communities of peace, justice, hope, healing and wholeness in which all God’s people experience shalom.
